New Algorithm Reveals the Meaning of Dreams
Researchers have recently developed an algorithm that can identify common themes and patterns in dreams, IFLScience.com. A team of researchers from Roma Tre University in Italy and Nokia Bell Labs in the UK developed an algorithm that is capable of analyzing the words used in written reports of people’s dreams. Using this algorithm, they sought to highlight three components of the dream – characters, social interactions, and emotions – which the study authors consider the most important aspects “in aiding the interpretation of dreams”.
The team applied the algorithm to over 24,000 accounts of dreams found on the online public database DreamBank, which contains accounts of dreams from people dating back to the 1930s. “We found that most dream reports were indeed a continuation of what our dreamers were likely to experience in real life,” the researchers ultimately concluded.
