Description

 Eppendorf 5415R Refrigerated Centrifuge

The Eppendorf 5415R Centrifuge is a benchtop refrigerated centrifuge with the same user-friendly features as its cousins, the non-refrigerated Eppendorf 5415R. This refrigerated centrifuge features a maintenance-free drive that accelerates in a short 13 seconds to a maximum speed of 13,200 rpm or a maximum RCF of 16,000 x g. The fixed-angle rotor is smooth running and has been shown not to subject centrifuged particles to unwanted vibrations. Users can also use the dedicated short spin button for quick spin downs, reducing wait times.

Temperature-sensitive samples are maintained safely at 4 °C, even at maximum speed. The fast cool function of the Eppendorf 5415R brings the chamber temperature down to 4°C in about 16 minutes. The overall temperature range can be set between 0-40°C controlled through the dial knobs and shown on the digital display. Speeds can also be set from this command center, and by pressing the right-hand dial, users can toggle between RCF and RPM. Another feature is the motorized lid latch, which has two built-in gripper arms that close the lid automatically.

When setting up the Eppendorf Centrifuge 5415R, let the compressor settle before powering it up for at least 4 hours. This refrigerated microcentrifuge should be installed away from direct sunlight on a solid, non-resonant lab bench. A clearance of 30 cm/ 12 in should be observed to ensure proper circulation, refrigeration capacity, and safety.  When transferring the centrifuge between cold rooms and normal lab environments, it is important to allow the instrument to come to temperature, 30 minutes going into a cold room, and up to 3 hours leaving the cold room before connecting to the power supply of the Eppendorf 5415R to avoid damage from condensation.

Becoming familiar with the Eppendorf 5415R Centrifuge before operation and proper maintenance ensures uninterrupted, dependable use. Maintaining the refrigerated microcentrifuge from Eppendorf is easy and involves regularly emptying and cleaning the condensation water collector and ensuring the drain is clear. This will help keep the centrifuge in tip-top shape. Before a run, visually inspect tubes to ensure you’re not exceeding the maximum load and that the rotor is balanced, as the risk of breakage increases with increased speed and RCF. Once a month, it is best to clean the Eppendorf 5415R centrifuge rotor, inspect it for damage, refit the rotor seating, and bolt it back into place. These preventative checks help to ensure you avoid downtime.
