SPEX SamplePrep 6775 Cryogenic Grinder

The SPEX SamplePrep Freezer/Mill cools materials to below freezing and then grinds them into a powder with no thermal degradation.  This process is powered by a dual electromagnetic grinding chamber that pushes a steel rod back and forth rapidly against the ends of the sample vial.  This cryogenic grinder’s sample vials close very securely, eliminating the risk of cross contamination and keeping hazardous materials and critical samples safe.

This Spex 6775 Freezer Mill comes with a grinding vial set consisting of 4 sample vials and the steel rod.  The capacity of the sample vials is 25mL, with a typical sample weight being approximately 2 grams for biological samples and 1 gram for polymers. The maximum capacity is 8 grams. This grinder typically uses around 4-5 liters of liquid nitrogen to initially cool down and fill the tub, and then anywhere from 3-6 liters for each hour of operation. Some safety features include a lid interlock to prevent the mill from running if the lid is not fully latched, and a liquid nitrogen sensor that shuts the mill down if levels are too low.
