­The Sorvall Legend XTR Centrifuge offers users a high-capacity, refrigerated centrifuge that’s high-performance and flexible. This robust tabletop refrigerated centrifuge is used for multiple applications, including cell culture, biotechnology, food safety, bioproduction, blood separation, and more. This centrifuge features CFC refrigerant and a direct, brushless induction low-profile drive system for quiet operation at <61 dBa and low vibration.

­The Sorvall Legend XTR Centrifuge can process up to 4 lt in a compact 3-liter footprint allowing you to process more in fewer runs. It’s easy to vary the use in the XTR with a broad range of compatible rotors (sold separately) and inserts. Rotors for this refrigerated benchtop centrifuge auto lock into place and require no tools, so it takes only seconds to swap out. The SMARTspin technology auto-detects what rotor is in use, constraining parameters to the rotor’s specifications, and uses an imbalance sensor to monitor safe loading.

The Thermo Legend XTR is easily set up and controlled from the bright 50 cm LCD digital interface. This centrifuge allows users to set up 5 quick access buttons for frequently used protocols and access a folder storing up to 99 user-defined programs. Users can also control how the Legend XTR starts and stops with 9 acceleration and 10 deceleration rates. The temperature range of this refrigerated benchtop centrifuge is from -10 ° C to +40°C with a precool function for when you’re working with temperature-sensitive samples.

The speed display can be toggled between RCF and RPM with ranges up to 25830 RCF and between 300 and 15200 RPM depending on the rotor. Timed runs on this laboratory centrifuge can be set in intervals of hours and minutes (up to 99hrs), minutes and seconds, or continuous mode. There is also a pulse button for rapid spin-downs of samples.

Closing the lid of this Thermo Sorvall Legend XTR centrifuge can be done with a single-finger motion when the motor takes over, reducing closure time and ensuring a long life of components.  There is even an option to open the lid upon a cycle’s completion, signaling its end and allowing rapid retrieval. Every element of this centrifuge has been designed to maintain a long life and give a user-friendly experience.

This refrigerated centrifuge also features several safety measures. The housing and rotor chamber is built from a steel plate with an armor steel interior. The Motorized lid features a viewport and locks to prevent opening while a rotor is still spinning; in fact, the lid of the XTR can only be opened if the centrifuge is powered on and the rotor has come to a complete stop. The system will not run if the centrifuge lid is closed properly. In an emergency, such as a power failure, an emergency lid release allows users to rescue their precious samples.

Thermo Sorvall Legend XTR rotors can range from the versatile TX-750 swing bucket rotor with interchangeable buckets to hold a variety of vessels to Fiber-lite Carbon Fiber rotors and Biocontainment rotors for working with vaccinations, viruses, or harmful chemicals. Fiberlite Carbon Fiber is lightweight and also corrosion and fatigue-resistant, engineered to hold more and be less stressful on the system for longer life.
